Glazers Refute Sale Talk

Manchester United's owners, the Glazers, will never be popular wit the fans because of teh way they have taken United into £600m debt, but there may be a change of heart for some as the Ronaldo saga plays out in full.

Way back a month ago, Sir Alex Ferguson insisted that the Glazers "have balls" and "would rather leave a player to rot in the reserves than sell them to Real Madrid", and now they are going to hav their chance.

Yesterday, the madrid-based Marca newspaper insisted that negotiations had started between Real Madrid and Manchester United over the sale of our Portuguese hero Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Glazers supposedly believing that his value will only drop as the transfer-window comes to a close. A figure of £68m was mooted.

Yesterday night, the Glazers attempted to nipthe speculation in the bud, with one of their spokespeople calling UK radio station BBC FiveLive to issue a statement that the Glazers "have not had any contact at all with Real Madrid."

It seems that the Madrid press, who are uncomfortably close to Real, are back to their unsettling tactics...
