Ronaldo holds talks with Real Madrid prior to US Visit

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly skipped the third-place play-off against Mexico in the Confederations Cup in order to hold talks with Real Madrid en route to the United States.

The 32-year-old had his best performance in the Los Blancos shirt last term as he guided the Spanish outfit to a La Liga and Champions League double – the first time the club have achieved it since 1958.

Following the triumph, Ronaldo was alleged to have unpaid taxed with the Spanish authorities, and this did not go well with the attacker, who highlighted his intention to leave Real Madrid. Whilst the latest BetVictor Review suggests that he wll more than liekly end up staying, Manchester United are the favourites to sign him IF he does go.

The Portugal international is said to have been unsettled with the lack of support from the club while he was also depressed by the way the media treated his situation. Ronaldo’s Portugal lost out to Chile on penalties in the semi-final of the Confederations Cup, and shortly after the game, he was permitted to leave the camp to travel to Madrid, where he spoke with the club’s hierarchy over his future.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently revealed that the player was still ‘angry’ over the accusation and he had not spoken a work with the Euro 2016 winner to resolve the issue, he told Onda Cero: “Cristiano has a contract with Madrid so I do not give all this [speculation] the importance that others do. We must wait and we will speak after the Confederations Cup.

"He is angry. Many people have wanted to damage him with this tax issue, and other issues, and that affects him. We are delighted to have him at Madrid. I think Cristiano will also stay where he is. I have not spoken with Mendes about him. At the moment there is no reason to get too concerned.”

According to Marca, the European champions have assured Ronaldo that they will back him in the difficult situation as he plans to compete for a third successive Champions League crown next season. Following the short trip to Madrid, Ronaldo took a flight to the United States where he spent time with his new-born twins for the time.

Real Madrid will welcome the chance to clear the air with Cristiano Ronaldo, as they look towards the new season. Having won the double of La Liga and the Champions League in 2016/17, there aren't too mant changes expected at the Bernabeu over the summer.

It's expected that people outside of the firxt XI will leave - especially the ones of the calibre of Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez, who are world class but just don't have the trust or confidence of boss Zinedine Zidane.

It's believed that the club will spend their transfer funds on Kylian Mbappe, who impressed in the Championnat as well as the Champions League - with a move for Aubeyemang having been ruled out by Borussia Dortmund.
