Villarreal had the first chance in the second half when a powerful shot by Bruno grazed one of Casillas' posts. Real Madrid responded with an effort started by Arbeloa down the right wing, followed through by Ronaldo and brilliantly finished off by Higuain.

Higuain netted twice before Kaka and Xabi Alonso sealed the victory for Real Madrid.
