Carlo Ancelotti Brands Cristiano Ronaldo as Biggest Threat in Second Leg

Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that Bayern Munich needs to be wary of the threat posed by Cristiano Ronaldo when his team take on Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

Bayern Munich are trailing the Spanish outfit 2-1 after the first leg loss at the Allianz Arena. It was a surprise result considering that Madrid have performed poorly in the recent away games. Their home form has been brilliant and the same can be said of Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent goalscoring run. Ronaldo has not scored in the Spanish La Liga since March 13. Yet, he managed to score more goals in the first leg against Bayern.

It has taken his tally to 100 Champions League goals, becoming the first player to do so. As a result, the player hitting form at this stage in the campaign forces Ancelotti to make him as the most obvious candidate to mark in the match.

The likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Isco have not been scoring enough to be a major worry for the German club, who will have to score at least twice in order to equalise the game on the away goals rule. The presence of striker Robert Lewandowski will provide Bayern with a lot of confidence. The striker has scored 46 goals in 45 appearances this season.

"Small details decided the first leg and we have to focus on those.We cannot afford to leave Cristiano alone.We have a smaller chance than in the first leg, but we can definitely win this. The first 60 minutes in the first leg were quite good, but we made too many mistakes after that. Lewandowski is a great player and his return is very helpful. He has trained with the squad without any problems. It is a big confidence boost for us, but we will not change our strategy,” said Ancelotti.
