Neville backs Jadon Sancho to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo at United
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has tipped Jadon Sancho to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo, should he make the switch to the Red Devils this summer.
The Mancunian giants have been tipped to land his signature from Borussia Dortmund, but so far, they have been unable to finalise a transfer agreement.
The club remain optimistic of getting a deal over the line and Neville believes Sancho would perfectly fit into the right wing position where there is the need for improvement. He added that the England international could potentially emulate the likes of David Beckham and Ronaldo by making a key impact in the role.
He told Sky Sports: “People are talking about [Jack] Grealish, but now with [Bruno] Fernandes in there, do we need another number 10? I think the right-hand side is the biggest area where we need to improve. An out-and-out winger. You think about the great Man United sides, Beckham, [Andrei] Kanchelskis… Ronaldo played out there, Ole Gunnar played on the right-hand side. I think the right-hand side is the one big hole in the squad. Sancho can play out there and play really well.”
Dortmund have set an asking price of £108m for Sancho and they have made it clear that they won’t reduce the price tag this summer. United are reluctant to meet the price at the moment, but they are hoping to negotiate a structured deal. The club seem prepared to pay around £70m for Sancho this summer with the remaining sum could be settled over a period of 24 months.
The Bundesliga outfit are keen to sort Sancho’s future before their training camp in Switzerland on August 10. It remains to be seen whether United can reach a suitable agreement by then. The Red Devils recently qualified for the quarter-final stage of the Europa League after their emphatic 7-1 aggregate win over LASK.
