Real Lose without Injured Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo must have felt like running on to the pitch and scoring for his team-mates as he watched a brilliant Sevilla team take the Whites apart. Having been rested in order to prevent further injury to his ankle injury, Ronaldo could only sit on the sidelines and watch as Real fell 2-1 in an epic battle at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
The first goal was a product of a change in ball direction by Renato. Perroti recovered the ball and slipped it to Fernando Navarro, who subsequently crossed into the box where Jesus Navas connected with his head.
The Whites quieted the home crowd when Pepe headered home a free kick curled in by Guti just after half-time. The score gave momentum back to Real Madrid, who were finding it easier to penetrate the Sevilla midfield, but a defensive mistake eventually allowed the hosts to again take the lead. Navas scooped the ball over the back line and Renato finished well past Casillas.
Madrid went on the offensive in search of another equalizer, but couldn't finish off their chances.
