REAL SMASH CITY

Real Madrid has defeated Manchester City in its opening match of the Champions League at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. It was a brilliant match and those who were out there in the stadium would have got their money’s worth.

Madrid won the match by 3-2. Both the teams fought hard and the scores were levelled till the very last minute of the match. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the match winning goal for Madrid in the 90th minute and secured three points for his team.

Both Real Madrid and Manchester City are pretty strong sides and it was always going to be a close match. It was a display of high quality football by both the teams. Neither of the two teams managed to find the back of the net in the first half and at the half time break, the score was 0-0. The real drama started in the second half. All the five goals were scored in the last 21 minutes.

Manchester City got ahead in the match in the 69th minute with the goal of Edin Dzeko. However, the credit of the goal should be given to Yaya Toure who set up the goal brilliantly. He got rid of three Madrid players before passing the ball to Dzeko who had no problem in beating Casillas. It was a wakeup call for Jose Mourinho’s boys.

Madrid came back in the match just a few minutes later with the goal of Marcelo. It was a terrific right footed strike by the Brazilian and the ball went past Joe Hart, the goalkeeper of City, like a tracer bullet. The score remained 1-1 till the 85th minute and the match seemed to be going towards a draw. But, that wasn’t the case to be. Three goals were still to come in the match.

It was Aleksandar Kolarov who took City ahead with a flat shot. It seemed that City had put the final nail in the coffin, but, the Madrid boys didn’t give up. Karim Benzema scored the leveller in the 87th minute by latching on the chance created by Angel Di Maria and then, Cristiano Ronaldo finished off the game with a superb shot in the 90th minute. Real Madrid’s next match will be a La Liga encounter against Rayo on 23rd of September.
