Rio Ferdinand Reveals Highly Competitive Nature of Cristiano Ronaldo
Rio Ferdinand has surprisingly revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo used to be obsessed about Arsenal during his early days at Manchester United.
Now, it has been revealed that Ronaldo’s obsession was primarily due to Arsenal striker Thierry Henry. The Frenchman is regarded as one of the top strikers in Premier league history. He consistently managed to find himself as one of the top scorers in the Premier League until the arrival of Ronaldo in 2003. Even though the Portuguese did not hit the ground running straight away, he soon found himself competing with the likes of Henry in the goal scoring charts.
Ferdinand says that it soon became an obsession for Ronaldo and it is probably continuing even now. The urge to score has been much higher for Ronaldo, although he has also developed a reputation for being too selfish – something which cannot be associated with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who is also regarded as one of the best players in the world.
Ferdinand played extensively with Ronaldo to form part of a team that won everything from Premier League to the Champions League. In many ways, Ferdinand knows more about Ronaldo than any other player. Finishing top of the goal scoring charts was a crucial factor in transforming Ronaldo from a PFA Player of the Year into a world Player of the Year.
“I remember Cristiano Ronaldo used to come in and ask about Thierry Henry. You knew that stuff was on his mind.I think that’s what they’re doing now with him and Messi. They’re definitely doing that and I think every top scorer in every country, in any walk of life, even Sunday League, they want to know about the strikers in the other team.If there are two strikers in the same team going for the Golden Boot they would be working it out during the game, let alone after the match,” said Ferdinand.
