Ronaldo in World XI
He may have been snubbed in the individual Player of the Year Award for the prestigious Ballon D'Or, but Ronaldo was still in the spotlight yesterday after being named in the FIFA World XI.
To be fair, with Barcelona dominating the football plaudits over the last year (even if they were beaten by Inter in the Champions League Semis), Ronny was always going to struggle to make his mark.
Some good performances in the World Cup got him noticed, but the fact that he didn't win any silverware leaves him without a hope of winning the majot awards. That said, Wesley Sneijder won the Treble in Italy and got to the World Cup Final, and even that wasn't enough to make it into the top 3. Messi, Xavi and Iniesta deserve their moment in the sun.
Ronaldo WAS named in the World XI, which would be an amazing team. Casillas in nets, protected by Maicon, Lucio, Pique and Puyol. Iniesta, Xavi and Sneijder pulling the strings in midfield (though we're not sure which one of them will be doing the tackling!) with David Villa, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo up-front.
They would take some beating!
