Ronny: Thanks
Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for his kind words of praise and unstinting support throughout the last few weeks.
"It is always nice to know that the coach is satisfied with our work. It makes me even more motivated to help this club. The problems of the past have long gone. I am very happy at this club and I want to stay here."
It looks as though Ronaldo will be staying here in the medium to long-term future.
Meanwhile, he admitted that he played better football when whistled, and gave his review of the match.
"We did not play as well as we are able to and the Benfica did everything to make it difficult for us, but after the break the team came out more composed and calm," Ronaldo explained. As regards to me, my form was fair. I play better with whistles.
Fergie had more kind words for him after the match.
"Cristiano has been fantastic all season," Ferguson enthused. "He has taken a lot of criticism from the public but he has risen above it. He has not let it affect him and that shows great courage.
"He is showing a maturity which belies his age. He is only 21, but young players have to get through periods like this."
