Fergie: No Doubts
Sir Alex Ferguson never had any doubts as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo would sign his new contract, which ties him to the club till 2012!
"I had no doubts, I think everyone else had outside Old Trafford," said Ferguson on Sky Sports News in regard to whether Ronaldo would sign a new contract.
"I think there is some grounds for the speculation in the sense that if they keep talking in Spain in the way they do and unsettling clubs like ourselves it doesn't matter.
"They haven't any care for Manchester United or anyone else when they decide to put the net out for the best players in the world.
"They have shown that, over the years, they don't have much care or regard for how you feel, but when it continually goes on and on and on, you start worrying about the substance and the source of it.
"You know deep inside you it's a game they play when their elections are coming up in particular.
"I was confident about Cristiano - he's happy here, his family are happy here and he's at the right club. He's progressed and developed at the club."
Ferguson also praised United chief executive David Gill for his role in finalising the new contract for Ronaldo.
He added: "I must say David Gill has done a great job. As we all know today negotiations with any player can be complicated.
"But when one party negotiates they have a target and the other party have their target. Eventually you hope you get together and that's what we've done.
"David's worked hard in the last two months to get to that point which was reached early last night."
