Cristiano Ronaldo has picked up another award for his genius on the football pitch, even if his magic has been waning of late!

Having played his heart out and lost in the stormy rain in Milan, Ronaldo will take some comfort from the fact that he is considered the best player of the year in the Premiership, not just voted for by his fellow footballers, and the fans, but also by the media.

Ronaldo has had some run-ins with the press - their intrusion into his private life when his father died and over the dropped rape allegations - but the Press are doing all they can to show Ronny some respect - and all this in spite of teh crazy headlines we saw last summer, urging United to get rid of him!

The Press Writers Association made Ronaldo the winner by a landslide.

"Cristiano was a runaway winner, and deservedly so," said Paul Hetherington, chairman of the FWA.

Hetherington added: "After the events of last summer at the World Cup, the vote of the Football Writers' Association shows that what we are all interested in is honouring the best player in the country.

"There has been no agendas carried over from last summer."
