Cristiano Ronaldo heads the list of players nominated for this year's Professional Footballers Association player of the year award.

The Manchester United winger, who also claimed the award last year, faces competition from the Arsenal duo of Cesc Fábregas and Emmanuel Adebayor, Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, and the Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

Cristiano Ronaldo won both the PFA Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year last year, but he didn''t let it go to his head.

"It doesn't affect him to be honest," Ferguson told reporters. "I don't see any signs that it does. I think the boy is intelligent enough and sensible enough to realise what football is about.

"Success can affect people. You see it time and time again but the great quality is to keep your humility and your feet on the ground.

"Yes he will go and express himself in a way that is extravagant at times but that's a measure of his courage and ability which we never attempt to stop him doing because we want players to go on the stage at Old Trafford and express themselves in a big, big way."

Meanwhile, World Player of the Year Kaka says Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the best player in the world.
The AC Milan star said: "At this moment Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world, for the goals he has scored and his quality. He's emerged this season.

"To win the Ballon d'Or depends on many factors. There is also the European Championships."
