Real win the Derby
Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid won the derby game, despite going a goal down, to head back to the top of the Primera Liga! They also broke the record for the longest run of consecutive games in which they have scored three or more goals.
Real Madrid were patient in the early going and dictated the tempo. But against the run of play, Aguero passed to Reyes along the right flank, where the winger curled a tight shot into the corner of Casillas’ net.
It was still early and Real Madrid pushed forwards. Cristiano Ronaldo received the ball in the midfield, blew past four defenders and nearly struck gold but sent the ball just wide of the post.
Atletico looked at ease on the pitch, but Real Madrid had the majority of the scoring chances and during the last 15 minutes of the first half laid siege on the Colchonero box.
Real Madrid continued their surge forward in the second half and Xabi Alonso scored the equalizer. Albiol sent in the corner and the midfielder, who found himself alone on the far post, found the back of the net.
Seven minutes later, Xabi Alonso sent a long ball to the right flank where a galloping Arbeloa controlled with his chest, dribbled past Dominguez and beat De Gea. But there was still more - Higuain capitalized on a defensive mistake and knocked in his 23rd league goal.
Atletico regained their fighting chance after a hand ball in the box and Forlan successfully netted the ensuing penalty, but they didn't manage to grab the equaliser.
