GARETH BALES DOWNPLAYS MEETING CRISTIANO RONALDO
As Wales are set to take on Portugal in the semi final of the Euro 2016, super star player Gareth Bale has downplayed the meeting with his team mate at Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo.
The relationship between both players has been scrutinized a lot but both players keep insisting that there’s no issue between them.
Both superstars would meet when Wales play Portugal at the semi final in Lyon at the Euro 2016 tournament. The game would be Wales’s first semi final at a major tournament. At a conference, Bale said: “It’s not about two players; it is about two nations in a semi final, 11 men against 11 men. Everybody knows that really.”
Bales surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo when he joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspurs for a world record fee of £85 million in 2013. Ronaldo used to hold the record of £80 million when he joined from Manchester United back in 2009. Both players have been instrumental to Real Madrid winning two UEFA Champions League trophies in three years, and they are now favourites to win a third according to ladbrokes, who have them as low as 2-1.
The game against Wales will be Ronaldo’s third European Championship. He was a part of the squad that lost the Euro 2004 final to Greece.
Ronaldo will be hoping he helps his country clinch the trophy this time. On the other hand, Bale’s three goals helped the Welsh squad get to the Round of 16 and he has mentioned that they could go all the way to lift the trophy.
Bale claim the team didn’t come to the tournament to make numbers but to do business. He added that they want to win the tournament and would concentrate on anything in the semi final then they could face the final. Wales are receiving the support of many people around the globe who want the small country to cause an upset in the tournament.
