Jose Mourinho comments on Cristiano Ronaldo
Jose Mourinho has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s actions in the Euro 2016 final were not a factor in Portugal lifting the tournament by beating France.
Both teams were not fancied at the start of the tournament, but they went through several unlikely victories to reach this stage of the competition. Portugal managed to lift the Euro 2016 against all the odds by beating France 1-0 after extra time. Coming into the game, the Portuguese outfit were considered as being slightly stronger due to the presence of players like Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the home support given to France was seen as a major advantage.
Portugal, though, lost to their biggest asset – Ronaldo – through an injury after just 25 minutes of action. This left them with a huge handicap and the need to create chances without the former world Player of the Year. Their chances, a bit like at roulette in an online casino, rested on the luck of the ball dropping in the right place. France seemed to have the upper hand, but they failed to convert any of their chances.
As both teams failed to break the deadlock, it was left to Éder to score the crucial goal in extra time. France did their best to make a comeback, but it was not to be. The French were looking to relive the moments of Euro 1998 when they won a similar home tournament, but they struggled to make anything happen even though they had some great players - much like having a gala bingo promo code but not doing anything with it.
Ronaldo was urging his teammates from the sidelines, but Mourinho says that it was not the reason for Portugal’s win."Cristiano Ronaldo didn't help in any way by doing that in the final few minutes of the Euros final. There were 11 players on the pitch doing their job, and the person in charge of directing them was the coach.I saw it as an overload of emotion from someone who saw that the team was just minutes away from achieving an objective which everyone wanted. He lost a little emotional control -- not that that's a bad thing,” said Mourinho.
