RONALDO BREAKS PELE RECORD

Brazilian football icon Edson Araantes Do Nascimento, also known as Pele, is regarded by many as the greatest football player ever and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is not far from him especially after he broke his record for the most career goals.

Pele had held the record of 757 career goals for almost five decades before Portuguese national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo smashed the record at the weekend during the league win over Udinese.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus ended last year on a poor note following the 3-0 home defeat at the hands of struggling Fiorentina.

The Turin giants ended that Fiorentina game with a man short due to the first half red card given to Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado. Juventus were able to bounce back from that disappointing defeat to Fiorentina in their first game of the year in the Italian Serie A and Udinese were the team on the receiving end thanks to the brace from Cristiano Ronaldo either side of the interval.

His goals propelled the Old Lady to an emphatic 4-1 win over Udinese at home. Federico Chiesa and Paolo Dybala were the other goalscorers for Juventus, while the lone goal for Udinese was scored by Dutch player Marvin Zeegelaar.

Cristiano Ronaldo went into the Udinese game with 756 career goals and he was able to equal the record of 757 goals set by Pele many years ago when he scored the opening goal of the game. He went on to break the record by adding another goal to his league tally for the season with his second goal of the game on 70 minutes.

The brace took his league tally to 14 goals as the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was able to extend his lead at the top of the scoring charts over nearest challenger RomeluLukaku of Inter Milan.
