RONALDO ON TARGET AGAINST BURNLEY
Cristiano Ronaldo was amongst the goals as his Manchester United side beat Burnley 3-1 to move into the top six on the Premier League table. The Portugal international was one of the two Manchester United goalscorers during the game played at the Theatre of Dreams on Thursday. Cristiano Ronaldo provided a goal and an assist to help his team on the way to an important victory in the race to qualify for Champions League football next season.
Manchester United made a bright start to their home Premier League clash with the Clarets and they were rewarded with the first goal of the game on eight minutes.Cristiano Ronaldo had a hand in the first goal as he provided the assist for Scott McTominay to break the deadlock in the eighth minute.
The Red Devils didn't rest on their laurels after the first goal and they soon doubled their lead when Burnley skipper Ben Mee put the ball in his own net after some impressive work from Manchester United summer signing Jadon Sancho. The second United goal arrived on 27 minutes. Manchester United made it two goals in eight minutes to go 3-0 up in the 35th minute with Cristiano Ronaldo getting the third goal off the assist from Scottish national team star Scott McTominay. Ronaldo was able to score his eighth league goal of the season to move joint fourth on the list of the leading goalscorers in the Premier League this season. Only the trio of Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) and Diogo Jota (Liverpool) now has more goals than the Portuguese attacker.
Burnley pulled one back courtesy Aaron Lennon with seven first half minutes left and that turned out to be the end of goals in the game after the two teams failed to add to their tally in the second half.
