DALOT: HELP RONALDO WIN THE WORLD CUP
Diogo Dalot has expressed that every member of the Portugal national team is determined to help Cristiano Ronaldo achieve his dream of winning the World Cup before he retires.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner will be 41 by the time next year's World Cup is held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, making it likely to be his final chance at winning the prestigious tournament, which has eluded him in his previous five attempts.
Although Ronaldo has already led Portugal to victory in Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League, the World Cup remains a missing achievement in his illustrious career. As Portugal continues to chase success in the Nations League this year, with a two-legged quarter-final tie against Denmark ahead, Dalot remains hopeful that more silverware will follow, particularly in what could be Ronaldo's final World Cup appearance.
"Obviously, it is difficult to find more adjectives to describe Cristiano," Dalot said. "For me, and I believe for others too, it is a huge privilege to continue having him in the national team, to share moments and to soak up the experience of his career." The Manchester United full-back, who has played alongside Ronaldo at club and international level, emphasized the collective desire within the squad to see the iconic forward secure more titles with Portugal.
"There is this energy of wanting to see him win big competitions for Portugal," Dalot continued. "The love he has shown throughout his career cannot be questioned and, for us – using that as an example – it would be a beautiful story to see him win as many competitions as possible for Portugal. I believe that every player wants that."
As Ronaldo's final World Cup approachs, Dalot and his teammates are fully committed to ensuring that the legendary forward has one last chance at achieving football's greatest prize.
